Nadia Khawaja lives and works in Lahore. Her works read like the unraveling of a story which weave their way through multiple experiences like femininity, childhood wounding, identity, belonging and connection to mother nature. She uses drawing, photo, video, painting and other mediums to produce a dynamic body of work that aspires to a universality, to a visual unity of form, in which all things are interconnected, be it sound and movement, be it human internal or external form, be it perception or sight or be it cityscapes or landscapes.
Using a language which is evocative, lyrical and abstract, her work looks at the complimentary and playful relationships that emerge in exploration of interests ranging from eastern philosophy, music and dance to science, geometry and the current post and de-colonial dialogue.
Her videos often invoke a dialogue with elemental forces and sounds that challenge the status quo.
Her work has been shown in various group and solo shows nationally and internationally some of which are:
‘Sight Insight’ (The Jam Jar gallery, Dubai, 2009)
‘New Art from Pakistan’ (Thomas Erben gallery, New York, 2010)
